Mogilev Automobile Plant was established in 1935. In the beginning it was functioning as a vehicle repair workshop. In the course of its existence the plant was switching to different production fields. In the late 30's the Mogilev Vehicle Repair Plant was mostly a military industry enterprise - production orders came mainly from the military. The plant was the basic repair centre for motor and tank troops of the West Special Military District. During the World War II the plant was evacuated to the region beyond the river Volga and merged with a huge network of motor vehicle enterprises producing air engines for famous IL-2 aircrafts. During the post-war period the plant was producing steam power mini-stations with the output of 10-200 h. p. These mini-stations were used, first and most, to introduce electricity and heating systems to agricultural and local industries. From 1955 through 1968 the plant was producing electrobridge cranes with the load carrying capacity of 5000 kilos and oil-carrying trucks based on the GAS trucks. Starting from 1960 the plant switched to producing earth-moving machines and motor vehicles.
This switch was carried out with the help of Minsk Automobile Plant specialists - a close cooperation between the two plants keeps to exist up to the present day.
In 1960 a group of constructors from Minsk Automobile Plant was assigned to Mogilev Automobile Plant. This group made the basis for establishing the construction experimental foundation of plant activities.
Mogilev Automobile Plant is one of the largest producers of earth-moving machines in the CIS countries, the plant has its own experimental construction base, it develops, produces and sells road-building and special purpose vehicles.
The plant includes moulding, supplying, welding, instrumental, mechanic processing and assembly divisions. With its thirty-year experience in developing and producing earth-moving vehicles the plant is the only enterprise in the CIS countries that produces and develops self-propelled scrapers, roller trains for mining works, full-geared dump-trucks with the load carrying capacity of 23.000 kilos, airfiled loaders for towing aircrafts with over 400.000 kilos flight weight.
The high degree of units and systems unification, the reliability and constant technical improvement of the vehicles produced have been making for an extensive use of these vehicles in the CIS countries and abroad. Through 1970-90 the plant was supplying all the republics of the former Soviet Union with self-propelled scrapers, mining roller trains and dump trucks with the load carrying capacity of 23.000 kilos.
Export sales of self-propelled scrapers within this period made about 15-20% of the total amount of the scrapers produced. These scrapers has been delivered to more than 30 countries of the world including countries of the Eastern Europe, Near East, South-East Asia and Latin America. Self-propelled scrapers originating from Mogilev Automobile Plant were extensively used when building the following constructions - North Crimea Irrigation Channel, irrigation systems of the Middle Asia republics. All the tunnels of Baikal-Amur Railway are built using dump road trucks from Mogilev. The builders of irrigation systems in the Ukraine and Baikal-Amur Railway showed their high appreciation of the Mogilev Automobile Plant vehicles by putting these machines to honour pedestals at North Crimea canal, Baikal-Amur Railway and in the town of Naberezhnye Chelny in Tatarstan.
More than 30 mines in the CIS make use of MoAZ - 7405 - 9586 Dump Road Train. In the course of the last years the MoAZ - 75051 Dump Trucks adjusted for work under severe terrain and road conditions, with load carrying capacity 23.000 kilos, have been extensively used at gas and oil complexes of the Western Siberia. Dump trucks are successfully used at domestic Belarusian enterprises, e.g. at Kostukovichi Concrete Enterprise, Volkovysk Concrete Plant, Mikashevichi, "Granit" Production Unit as well as at other plants and enterprises. Through the 90's the plant was having a hard time but still, based on the high construction and technological potential, the availability of free production resources the plant launched production of new vehicles: MoAZ - 4084 loader with the load carrying capacity of 8.000 kilos and SMB - 049 Concrete Mixer Truck. Chassi construction for MoAZ - 6910 seismo-resistant vehicles has been developed. A batch of special short-based chassis for MoAZ - 8004 crane unit with load carrying capacity of 50.000 kilos has been produced. The production of road-rollers based on MoAZ - 6443 dump truck has been launched. The first ever industrial batch of electric cars with the load carrying capacity of 2.000 kilos has been produced. In compliance with the "Concrete" state program, production of SMB - 049 and SMB - 070 concrete mixers with the drum volume of 4 and 6 m3 accordingly and with the chassis from Minsk Automobile Plant has been launched. Rapid development of machine constructions and fast launch into production are ensured due to the high professional level of the constructors and technologists as well as due to the vast experience of the workers. In 1972 10 plant workers were chosen as Laureates of the BSSR State Premium for the development of mining dump trucks and launching them into production. Also, 3 plant workers were awarded with the title of "Honourable Industrial Worker of the Republic of Belarus" for developing the line of earth-moving vehicles and launching them into production. The plant authorities put emphasis not only on the production issues - there are local social and cultural premises for the working community. Despite the financial problems, they go on with building new houses. For the first time in Mogilev, especially for the plant workers, two new blocks of flats are being built. There are 3 canteens, the plant is running its own farm and a pigsty for 500 heads. In 1997 the level of production volume allowed one to presume that the enterprise has overcome the deep crisis and every month the production volumes are growing more and more. The plant is hiring new workers: turners, welders, metalworkers. There are contracts with various buyers willing to obtain pit bulldozers, concrete mixers, dump trucks. These are the proofs of improving opportunities for cooperation with the main buyer of our production - Russia, and this improvement will make for the growth of the plant's profit.
